ACP Magazines outperforms in the latest circulation audit with 10 of ACP’s 13 Women’s Lifestyle titles increasing period on period

Dolly confirms its position as Australia’s number-one youth title, extending its lead over Girlfriend to more than 17,000 – up 5% POP

All eight ACP Women’s Lifestyle monthly titles increase circulation period on period

ACP Magazines has further cemented its position as Australia’s leading magazine publisher in the latest Audit Bureau of Circulation (ABC) results for the period ending June 2009.

In the latest audit of ACP Magazines’ 13 Women’s Lifestyle titles, 10 recorded growth with two weeklies (Woman’s Day and Grazia) and all eight monthlies (The Australian Women’s Weekly, Cosmopolitan, CLEO, Dolly, madison, Shop Til You Drop, Harper’s Bazaar, and Good Health) increasing circulation period on period.

Most impressive were:
Shop Til You Drop achieved its highest circulation ever, now selling 80,964 copies every issue. It dominates the fashion market selling 30,000 more than Vogue, and 18,000 more than InStyle
Harper’s Bazaar overtakes Vogue with an 8% POP increase to sell 51,467 copies.
Good Health is the fastest growing health title in a competitive market. Its circulation was up 10% POP to 66,115.
Dolly increased circulation POP and YOY to increase its lead over Girlfriend to more than 17,000, increasing the gap more than threefold compared to one year ago.

In what is clearly a turning of the tide, ACP Magazines’ investment in circulation growth has already proven itself.

ACP covers the market
The power of ACP Magazines’ Women’s Lifestyle titles is confirmed by the fact that in the last year 94%* of all Australian women (14+) read an ACP Women’s Lifestyle title. Effectively 2.4 ACP Women’s Lifestyle titles were sold every second!

ACP Magazines’ strength across most major women’s magazines categories** is clear, with ACP the number one publisher across the following categories:

- Women’s Lifestyle (75% share)
- Fashion (64% share)
- Mass (57% share)
- Major Weeklies (56% share)
- Celebrity Weeklies (55% share)
- Younger Women’s (54% share)

Circulation and Readership Highlights

ACP Magazines publishes the top two magazines in the country, The Australian Women’s Weekly and Woman’s Day, and 16 of the 30 most read titles in Australia.

The Australian Women’s Weekly is the country’s premier magazine with the highest circulation and readership of any title. It sells nearly half a million copies and reaches 2,177,000 people every month.
Woman’s Day is Australia’s most popular weekly title, selling 407,644 copies every week. Woman’s Day sold over one million more copies than New Idea during the last audit period Apr-Jun09. More than 2.1 million people read Woman’s Day each issue.
NW is Australia’s number one selling celebrity title. NW maintained its dominance after posting an audit of 140,283. It sold 74% more than Famous and leads Who by more than 5,000 copies.
Grazia has increased its circulation to 66,240. With readership of 195,000 Grazia has quickly established itself and found its niche in the weekly and fashion magazine markets with the highest proportion of ABs among all women’s magazines.
TV Week’s popularity is still growing with a 7% year on year readership increase, to now claim to be the eighth most read magazine in the country with 915,000 readers every issue. TV Week audited 223,643 copies.
Take 5 has increased its readership to 894,000, to equal its highest readership ever. It also posted a strong circulation audit of 246,459.
Shop Til You Drop is Australia’s fastest growing fashion title, achieving its highest circulation ever with an 8% increase over the year. It now sells 80,964 copies, 30,000 more than Vogue and 19,000 more than InStyle.
Harper’s Bazaar increased in circulation by 8%, to sell 51,467 each issue, overtaking Vogue. Harper’s Bazaar also increased its readership over the period to 191,000.
madison had a strong circulation audit increasing to 90,673 and closed the gap on marie claire. It also increased its readership to 239,000, up both period on period and year on year.
Cosmopolitan increased in circulation to maintain its position as the number one young women’s lifestyle title, now selling 166,208 copies each issue. Its readership also increased by 4% over the period to 617,000 readers.
CLEO has benefited from strong editorial direction to increase in circulation to 134,286, while also reporting a solid readership of 425,000. Together CLEO and Cosmopolitan sell more than 300,000 copies every month.
Dolly remains the number one youth title continuing its dominance over Girlfriend, which it has outsold and outreached since the latter launched over 20 years ago. Dolly’s circulation increased by 5% POP and 4% YOY to 125,169, more than tripling its lead over Girlfriend from one year ago. The gap is now more than 17,000 copies.
Good Health has increased its circulation by an extraordinary 10% period on period. Now selling 66,115 copies, Good Health is asserting its position as an authority on all aspects of health across a wide demographic.
