Readership: ACP's strong growth in the food category
November 12
ACP Magazines again demonstrated strong growth in the food category and out-performed category growth over the past twelve months.
Australian Good Food continues to grow, with total readership now at 296,000 – up 6.5% since its first readership survey in December 2008. Both Australian Gourmet Traveller and Australian Gourmet Wine also added readers, increasing by 4% and 8% respectively over the past 12 months. Australian Gourmet Wine continues to attract more dedicated followers, with the most affluent profile amongst all food and homes titles. Readership of the title has grown by 8% year on year, and by 28% over the past two years.
Australian House & Garden, Belle and Real Living also delivered readership results well above the category average, up by a total of 9,000 readers on the previous period. Australian House & Garden remains the leading aspirational title, gaining 6,000 readers compared to the previous period.
Phil Scott, Publishing Director, ACP Men’s Specialist & Custom titles, said: “We have delivered a strong performance, despite the economic conditions being less than friendly. In a difficult market we have achieved growth well above the category in both the Food and Homemaker areas. At the same time, ACP has seen growth in the predominantly male reader categories of Motoring, Men’s Lifestyle and Entertainment.”
ACP has continued to achieve success in the Men’s Lifestyle categories with ACP’s Men’s Lifestyle magazines comprising 62% of the category. ACP publishes eight of the top ten men’s magazines with a combined unduplicated reach of 2.4 million readers
ACP also gained share in the motoring category, reaching a total of 1.2 million unique readers, leading the race with 76% share of the category. Launched in 2008, Top Gear continues to be Australian’s most read motoring magazine, attracting a total readership of 428,000. Importantly, Top Gear expanded its reach within key demographics including professionals and managers, and upper-income earners. Top Gear recently won Launch of the Year in the prestigious Australian Magazine Awards.
Another star performer was entertainment title, Empire, which has lifted readership by 8% year on year. Empire recently won General Interest Magazine of the Year in the 2009 Australian Magazine Awards.
